So your guitar or bass's tone is sounding dull. It lacks the presence and "zing" that you expected for the money. I mean, you'd expect a name brand to deliver clear and articulate sounds, a nice taper in the volume pot, and no scratchiness right?! That's not asking too much...
Enter 920D Custom – a company set up to sort out this problem with their industry leading premium prewired harnesses. Sounds like stuff you'd throw on a wild stallion right? Well, in many ways that's what you get with your tone and controls when you upgrade your sub-par instrument with one of these!
The pots are made by CTS to 920D Custom's exacting specs, being individually tested to be within very tight ratings. That means something like a 250K volume or tone pot is very close to that specific rating, whereas far too many factory pots in big brand name instruments can sometimes fall surprisingly short when tested.
What does this mean?
It means there is not enough signal going through the pot and it results in dull tones, uneven tapers, and the pickups not getting the juice that they need for optimum tone.
On top of this, 920D's wiring and soldering is second to none, including the use of vintage spec cloth wiring that is done incredibly neatly. Check out the guts of some guitars and you'll see just how much better they do it! Also all other components are high-grade and thoroughly tested prior to being included in a build.
Do yourself a favour and give your instrument's guts a tonal cleanse. It's less painful and messy than a colon cleanse...
All 920D Custom products are highlighted with our signature orange wire. Gavitt Wire, a leading producer of premium guitar wire, has agreed to custom manufacture our signature cloth covered pushback wire, and we believe it is the perfect choice for hot-rodding your guitar. The wire is built with an outer waxed cotton layer and an inner Celanese braid that provides impressive ruggedness while still maintaining a 22 gauge thickness. Limiting the amount of wire on each build compliments your choice of pickups by creating the perfect balance between capacitance and resistance.
920D Custom potentiometers are used in this build. Our pots are manufactured by CTS to our exact specifications and are metered for accuracy before being used in any 920D Custom gear.
We specify a 10% audio taper, accompanied with a low rotational torque rating of 0.50-2.00 in.oz (compared to the industry standard 0.75-6.00 in.oz rating) to provide a buttery knob sweep.
We hold potentiometer tolerances to ±10%. The industry standard is ±20%. Tightening potentiometer tolerances will help you accurately shape your tone.
We exclusively use Pure Tone output jacks in all builds. Why? Because they're unquestionably better than the old, industry standard. PERIOD.
We've all heard the crackle of a weak connection caused by pressure grounds. This is due to the old style jack only having 1 squared-off point of contact trying to meet a rounded quarter inch plug. Pure Tone has completely changed that.
Pure Tone's multi-contact quarter inch output jack has 4 rounded contact points that hold the quarter inch plug firmly in place. With 4 times the contact points, all of the dreaded cracks, snaps, and pops are gone for good. Trust us, the second you plug into this jack, you'll never want to go back.
Our SG50-PIO is built using a genuine Switchcraft 3-Way Toggle. These switches are well known for their durability and noise-free reliability. Switchcraft Switches are rated to last a lifetime. This switch is, hands-down, the 3-way switch you want in your instrument.
We've used Sprague Orange Drop Capacitors in our builds since day 1. Orange Drop® Polyester Film/Foil Capacitors are wound from the most reliable polyester film and aluminium foil available and are protected by a rugged conformal coating of orange epoxy.
All of that to say, these capacitors do a tremendous job of warming up your tone and taking away some of the bite of an overly bright sound. Like our potentiometers, these capacitors are held to a ±10% tolerance.
This 920D Custom product uses non-inductive mylar and oil caps. They use oil soaked mylar as di-electric material that produces an impressively smooth, natural sound. Dialling in these caps will greatly warm up your tone and cut back on the overly bright, ear-piercing frequencies.
All 920D Custom creations are hand-built by experienced technicians at our headquarters in Conway, Arkansas. We treat your new gear like it's going into one of our own guitars. Every millimetre of wire is cut precisely, every solder joint is perfectly smooth and symmetrical, and every bend is purposeful and direct. We hold everything to a tremendous level of quality because we know the smallest details matter and we take great pride in our work.
