AMBIENCE | AMBIENCE

Liquid Ambience Stereophonic Reverb a premium crafted stereo polyphonic voice & reverb effect with analog dry paths and true bypassing. The DSP core generates stereo octaves, fifths and pitch bends off the input signals, mixing them into a luscious stereo reverb tank and recirculating a portion back through again for a beautiful evolving characteristic. The analog section mixes the original analog inputs with the generated signals via the mix control giving a full stereo image.

AUDIO INPUTS

Stereo inputs can be connected either by plugging into the L and R input jacks or by plugging a TRS into the L input jack. To use TRS switch the internal INPUT CONFIG switch to TRS... it is factory set to 2J (2 Jacks). When using a mono input plug into the L input jack and a stereo reverb eld will be generated from the single input.

AUDIO OUTPUTS

VOICE SELECT & BALANCE

BEND (or Neutral)
Subtle pitch change up (high) or down (low) for bending or detuned tone thickening. Nearby LED indicates Bend mode.

OCTAVES
Blends between octave (high) and sub-octave (low) voices to balance the desired octave spectrum.

FIFTHS
Blends between fifth (high) and sub-fifth (low) voices to balance the desired fifth spectrum.

POLYPHONIC VOICES... strum friendly and seamless
The voices are seamlessly generated from the whole input spectrum ensuring all simultaneously played strings are faithfully transposed up or down the frequency spectrum with perfect tracking.

OCTAVE VOICES
Octave intervals relate musically no matter what key you are playing in, so are very versatile. An octave up by nature contains more highs, whereas an octave down by nature contains more lows. Blending between the two balances the tonal character of the output. Halfway, for example, gives an equal amount of each.

FIFTH VOICES
Fifth intervals are less versatile than octaves as they only relate to certain parts of a key, but they provide a sublime harmony if used carefully. Like the octaves, a fifth up will produce more highs and a fifth down will produce more lows by nature. Blending between fifth-up and fifth-down balances the tonal character of the output.

BEND VOICE
This voice mode provides a subtle pitch change of up to ±20 cents. Bend mode is usually used in conjunction with the Evolve knob to generate a continuous bend. With Evolve set to zero however, the Bend mode will add a detuned tone rather than a perceived note bend, which will add thickness to the sound. At 12 o'clock where pitch is neutral the Liquid Ambience becomes solely an atmospheric reverb with no voicing.

REVERB

The reverb section provides luscious and spacious Hall type reverberation optimised for natural low frequency and high frequency damping. The Space knob controls the effective ‘size’ of the space, shaping the ambient density, tonal smear and rise & fall dynamics. In Octaves and Fifths modes some dry is also sent to the reverb to increase the ambient character.

MIX

The Mix control adjusts the wet level from zero to the same level as the dry signal. Alternatively, an internal switch re-configures this control to balance wet & dry so that you can dial dry right out if you want. Note that the dry feed is a pure analog copy of the input to preserve the purity of the input and its valuable tone.

DRY LOOP

For versatility, the dry path that feeds into the final mix can be interrupted and looped through an external effect or effect chain (EG tremolo), for a more complex layered sound. Alternatively the SEND can be used on its own as a dry feed to a second chain if desired. Also the RETURN can be used on its own to replace the dry feed to the mix control should you ever want to.

EVOLVE

One of the unique features of the Liquid Ambience, this control lets you recirculate a portion of the output back through the chain for re-voicing, evolving the sound. With octaves and fifths Evolve controls how much the voice blooms up or melts down the spectrum before trailing o , giving a shimmery/synth'y characteristic. In Bend mode it controls how long the notes continue to bend before trailing o . The Space setting significantly affects the speed and smoothness of these bloom and bend effects as they are organically interrelated.

MORE

This momentary switch intensifies recirculation by pushing it over the edge! When used with a high Space setting in Bend mode the e ect will begin to runaway, giving a rising intense sonic wash... once released the wash will begin to subside. Holding it down for extended periods of time in this mode will eventually induce some sonic Geiger-Müller effects! In Octaves and Fifths modes it accentuates the shimmery/synth'y characteristic. With Evolve set to zero, the More switch can be used to control a bend dynamically as you play.

EXPRESSION

The EXPR socket allows you to control the Voice blend via an expression pedal or any external 0-5V control voltage. Once a jack is plugged into this socket the Voice knob will no longer control the voice blend and the control is diverted to this input. Use this in Octaves or Fifths mode to dynamically control the frequency spectrum balance, or use in Bend mode to dynamically control the bend or detune while playing.

INTERNAL CONTROLS

KILLDRY
You can remove the dry signal from the output mix via the internal KILLDRY switch. This is useful if you're running your dry signal via a different path.

DRYRVB
Adjusts how much dry signal is mixed in with the voices and fed to the reverb. The trimmer has a range of 0 to 50% and is factory set to 25%. The voice level is reduced when DRYRVB is increased (and vice versa) to maintain unity.

REVERB HIGH-PASS FILTER
RVBHPF reduces low frequency reflections in the reverb. The trimmer has a range of 250Hz to 1kHz and is factory set to 250Hz.

BYPASSING

The Liquid Ambience is true-bypassed using high quality latching signal relays to preserve signal chain integrity, but can be reconfigured via an internal switch to provide buffered bypass with trails for natural reverb decay when the effect is deactivated, should you prefer.

PREMIUM COMPONENTRY

Precision BiFET op-amps are used throughout for their super low noise JFET inputs and high output drive capability, film capacitors preserve input tone, Alps pots ensure smooth and clean parameter control.

FINISHING

The Liquid Ambience, designed with simplistic elegance in mind, distills the very best benefits without unnecessary complexity into one compact unit. Each pedal is hand made, individually tested, and laser-engraved with a unique serial number. The Liquid Ambience comes superbly presented in deluxe packaging and is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 18-page instruction booklet.
