Lightning Wave formed between 2014-2016. It evolved from experimentation with an instrumental band called Thundercub around 2009 and later developed out of the collaboration between two Dunedin DIY pedal builders.
In 2011 Lee Nicolson built a first batch of 10 pedals and it became clear that design and manufacturing required some R&D. This was followed by a period of building things that made little sense to anyone, and were generally abysmal failures but contributed to the earliest Lightning Wave hardware.
Around 2013 Lee met Jonny Arthur via the DIY forum on NZ Guitars and were soon sharing ideas for the potential ways to approach an interface in the early stages of the LW concept.
The designs of 80tape were already advanced by this stage and Jonny brought an additional dimension and perspective to the development of the Lightning Wave concept by taking care of the firmware.
Together there's a shared compulsion to create ideas that are unique and challenge the user to think differently. If you'd like to keep up with development please follow the Instagram link below.
